"Out of sync" error with OS X 10.5 Leopard
Intel Macs running OS X 10.5 Leopard and playing Age of Mythology in multiplayer mode may experience an "out of sync" error when playing against other Intel Macs running OS X Tiger or against any PPC-based Mac. A new version 2.0.1 update to resolve this issue is now available below.
Software Update:
Age of Mythology 2.0.1 Update for Mac OS X
This update resolves the Leopard networking issue described above. This application will update Age of Mythology versions 2.0 to version 2.0.1. Please note that this updater should only be used on the U.S. retail installation of Age of Mythology, and that you must have previously installed the 2.0 Universal Binary update before applying 2.0.1.
You are strongly encouraged to make backups of all your saved games before using this updater. If you have any important saved games, make a copy of the Age of Mythology/Savegame folder and place it on the Finder's Desktop before updating the game software.
Age of Mythology version 2.0.1 is a Universal Binary, and will run natively on both Intel and PowerPC Macs.
In addition, please note the following: To play Multiplayer games via LAN, DirectIP, or GameRanger, all players must upgrade to version 2.0.1. Multiplayer games may not be played between version 2.0.1 and previous versions.
Save games and third-party scenarios are stored within the Universal Binary application. If you need to access these files from the Mac OS X Finder, click the Age of Mythology game icon and do a "Show Package Contents". From there, locate the Contents/Resources/GameData folder. For example, if you download a third-party scenario and you wish to add it to the game, do a "Show Package Contents" on the game icon, and place the downloaded file(s) into the Contents/Resources/GameData/scenario folder.

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY: The update below is ONLY for Macs with Rage 128 series video cards that are running OS X 10.2.8. Troubleshooting:
The minimum system requirements for this game are:
When I start Age of Mythology, an error message says "Cannot create log file. Please make sure you have full rights...." What do I do?
In OS X 10.2.8: Control-click the Age of Mythology folder and choose "Get Info." In the window that appears, click the arrow next to "Ownership & Permissions" and click the padlock icon next to the "Owner" field. Set the Group to "Staff" and both "Access" fields to "Read & Write." Click the "Apply to Enclosed Items..." button and close the window.
In OS X 10.3.X: Control-click the Age of Mythology folder and choose "Get Info." In the window that appears, click the arrow next to "Ownership & Permissions" and then the arrow next to "Details." Click the padlock icon next to the "Owner" field. Set the Group to "Staff" and both "Access" fields to "Read & Write." Click the "Apply to Enclosed Items..." button and close the window.
Age of Mythology hangs at the "Loading...." screen or crashes with an "Initialization Failed" message.
This is caused by a conflict with hard drive partitions named "Data." Change the name of the disc partition to anything else and the game will run normally. ("MyData" works fine)
The game stays on the "Building Game Interface" screen and the game's music plays in the background, but I can't get to the main menu.
Age of Mythology requires 16MB VRAM to load properly and will display this behavior when the Mac does not have the minimum required VRAM. The game will not function with less.
Text "rushes" through the cutscenes so fast I can't read it.
QuickTime Pro users take note: If your copy of QuickTime Pro is older than the latest version, your license key may not be valid for the current version if you update. In this case, reinstall your licensed version of QuickTime Pro.
Cause: Typically caused by a corruption in your Mac's QuickTime installation.
Solution: Simply drag the QuickTime icon in your Applications folder to the trash, and then download and install the latest version of QuickTime again from Apple's website.
I can't delete buildings using the Delete key on my Mac keyboard.
